ABSTRACT:

In view of the incompleteness and uncertainty of the information of slope stability evaluation , a model of slope stability evaluation using case-based reasoning was proposed. In consideration of the sensitivity of attribute weights to the environment, the algorithm of attribute weights was developed on the basis of the concept of changeable weights. The results indicated that this method ofevaluation is simple, visual, practical, and convenient to use.

INTRODUCTION

Slope is a non-lineal'' and uncertain kinetic system affected by many factors. The study on the method of the slope stability evaluation has always been a quite complicated problem. The main reason is the incompleteness and uncertainty of the information of the slope stability evaluation. The conventional methods of the slope stability evaluation can be classified into two categories, i. e. qualitative analysis methods and quantitative analysis methods(Huang & Ding 1999). The engineering analogy method is a representative of the qualitative analysis methods and has found extensive application in the engineering practice(Yang et al. 1997). The essence of the method is to apply the available experiences in respect to the stability conditions of the natural slope and the artificial slope and the affecting factors to the analogous slope stability evaluation to be studied. This requires conducting an in-depth investigation and analysis on the existing slopes and those being studied.
