ABSTRACT

Experimental studies on the void distribution in the liquid layer in stratified wavy flows have been carried out in a 4-inch diameter pipe using a fast response X-ray tomography system. This work is concentrated on flows with high gas density, SF6 up to 8 bara, under various near-horizontal inclination angles. The profiles of void in the liquid layer are examined for a range of gas densities and superficial gas and liquid velocities giving stratified flow. We expect that the results presented in this paper will provide invaluable information for those researchers who seek accurate data to validate their models for gas distribution in stratified flow.
