ABSTRACT
This paper is intended to summarize the results of modelling and simulation of the cleanup process for horizontal wells. The modelling and simulation is carried out using a commercial multiphase flow simulator. The simulation is validated against field measurements with good agreement. Addition simulation is performed to investigate the effects of different factors on cleanup. It is concluded that an upward flow in the wellbore with oil-mud slippage and high yield stress mud is not favourable to a quick and complete cleanup. The installation of sandscreen with inflow control devices gives better cleanup results than open-hole.
