In this study, we compared test results on a 1/15-scale captive model of the BB2 submarine and numerical results based on an unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) and large eddy simulations (LES). The URANS results for the static drift, angle of attack, pure yaw, and pure sway tests were compared with the experimental data. An LES analysis was performed for the drift condition, and the results were found to agree with the experimental data for large drift angles compared to the URANS results. The time step for accurate motion implementation and the repeatability of the computed loads were examined for the dynamic test simulations.
