Abstract

This paper studies the behaviour of a 4-point mooring system, using proprietary software, WAMIT and OrcaFlex, for a deep-draft vertical circular cylinder in water depths from 300m to 3000m. Coupled analysis results for intermediate water depth were compared with experimental data to check the validity of the numerical modelling. To better understand the key parameters in mooring system design, a sensitivity study against water depth was carried out. Results from parametric studies are compared to offer guidance to mooring system designers of the suitability of particular approaches.
