Abstract
Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) is a renewable energy the temperature difference between surface and deep sea water.A new ocean thermal energy conversion cycle with pre-heater, separator, internal heat exchanger and static mixer (OTEC-PSIM) is proposed and simulated using the HYSYS software package. Also, a performance criterion is proposed to help select the most optimal working fluid. Results indicated that a high mass heat of vaporization at the inlets of the evaporator and condenser corresponds to a high turbine and pump work and vice versa with, R717 being the most promising fluid among the selected working fluids except for its high toxicity.
