Abstract

During operation of offshore structures the seabed soil around and beneath the structure foundations is exposed to external effects such as sea currents and waves. As a result the soil is washed out from under the structure, which may reduce the bearing surface area and even cause the loss of structure stability on seabed.

Various protective measures are used to avoid sea bed soil scour around foundations of offshore structures.

This paper contains the results of the studies undertaken to evaluate the efficiency of some techniques for erosion protection of sea bed soil. This research project included model experiments in test basin with a gravity-type foundation exposed to sea currents and waves with coincident directions.
