Abstract

Sloshing of cryogenic liquids is of great importance both in LNG ship tanks as well as in spacecrafts. For both disciplines, LNG ship industry as well as space industry, it is essential to enhance currently available cryogenic slosh modeling techniques in order to tackle the next steps of developments. One major focus is to evaluate the sloshing behavior in partially filled cryogenic tanks, possibly including sloshing baffles which increase sloshing damping. The paper focuses on modeling techniques used for cryogenic sloshing in tanks. The currently applied phase change models, usable for space operations and LNG / FLNG, are discussed with respect to their capabilities. An alternative phase change model is proposed.
