Abstract

As a structure connecting wind turbine blades and floating platform, the safety of tower is very important. Under different wind and wave conditions, the tower will have different bending deformation due to different forces. Based on the 5MW three floating wind turbine of Renewable Energy Laboratory of the United States prototype, in this paper an experimental model under dynamic boundary conditions, measures the dynamic characteristics of the wind turbine tower under different wind and wave conditions is designed, and the results with the motion value of the tower simulated by FAST software are compared. This paper provides a reference for the selection of working environment of three floating body wind turbine.

Introduction

As a non-polluting and sustainable renewable energy source, various forms of wind turbines such as vertical axis and horizontal axis have been developed to utilize this clean energy source efficiently, and various minor changes have been made to wind turbines to promote the utilization of wind energy. The ocean has sufficient wind energy resources and does not occupy land, so that the development and utilization of offshore wind energy has become a hot research topic in various countries.

The floating foundation, as part of the floating wind turbine, plays a significant role in the whole force structure of the wind turbine, which must not only withstand of wind and waves, but also make the whole wind turbine float on the water surface.

In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of a three-floating wind turbine tower under dynamic boundary are investigated by taking the 5MW wind turbine of the Renewable Energy Laboratoy in the United States (Robertson A, 2014) as an example (Fig. 1), and the dynamic characteristics of the three-floating wind turbine tower under different wave and wind conditions are investigated by means of experiments and numerical simulations with comparative arguments.
