Abstract

Google SketchUp is a kind of 3D modeling software which directly faces the creative design process, with the advantages of easy to use and strong function. 3D modeling is always the hotspot and nodes in dangerous rock masses disaster research on the basis of characteristics of the geotechnical engineering. This paper firstly introduces the train of method about 3D modeling of dangerous rock masses using SketchUp; and then an example of T8 to T12 fracture sections at Lianzi Cliff is given to introduce 3D modeling processes of SketchUp; at last, the realistic 3D model of dangerous rock masses is showed. The conclusion shows that constructing 3D modeling of dangerous rock masses using SketchUp is an ideal method.

1 Foreword

With the development of computer science, rock mass engineering has developed from 1D, 2D to 3D and even 4D. Rock mass engineering has raised the requirements on 3D geological information simulation, advancing the studies on 3D modeling techniques in rock mass engineering and related modeling systematic design and development. Google SketchUp is a 3Dsoftware featuring learner friendliness and comprehensive functionalities, which obviously overperforms other complex ad-hoc 3D visualization software in 3D modeling of dangerous rock masses.

It realized 3D visualization model of Lianzi Cliff T8–T12 Fracture Dangerous Rock through sketchup software and a variety of key technologies. Combined with computer graphics, it bringed about final 3D visual expression which provided the provide intuitive visual model of the real effective for stability analysis and evaluation of Lianzi Cliff Dangerous Rock.

2 An Introduction To Google Sketchup

SketchUp can facilitate the fast and easy creation, amendment and rendering of the 3D creative. The establishment of the 3D model in which is as easy as drawing on the paper with a pencil since it boasts automatic identification and capturing of the lines for configuration. It works according to the most straightforward and easy methodology in modeling which starts from the drawing of lines, the composition of an area, and the finalization of the model.
