The use of a body of revolution is considered as a model of reflex ship forms, for the estimation of skin friction. The model examined was that proposed by Matheson and Joubert [1], and is based on equality of lengthwise perimeter variation between the hull reflex geosim and the body of revolution. Bodies of revolution corresponding to two hull shapes were tested and compared with results for the reflex models tested previously. Agreement was poor. One potential flow prediction method for the pressure distribution was applied to one model and two boundary-layer prediction methods for the variation of local skin friction coefficients were applied to each of the bodies of revolution. Agreement with measured results was fair.
