Abstract
Subsea installation across the globe comes with associated challenges and offshore East Coast of India is no exception considering the limited installation window available due to the annual monsoon season. The months of December to March are normally considered as the most suitable period for offshore installation. However, McDermott International, Inc as a contractor, faced a number of challenges due to persistent high currents during one of its recent offshore installation campaigns. The surface currents were recorded as high as 3.0 knots during the campaign which persisted for several days.
This paper details novel ideas adopted by McDermott to improve operability and mitigate the risks involved with working in high currents.
