Abstract
The Wind Force coefficients published in OCIMF publication – Prediction of Wind and Current Load on VLCCs (Ref [1]) are widely used in the offshore industry to estimate wind loads acting on vessels. However, it is to be noted that the coefficients were calculated based on a typical VLCC-sized oil tanker. The applicability of the coefficients to different hull sizes and topside configurations may vary. Therefore, this study aims to validate the OCIMF coefficients by performing wind tunnel testing for a typical Aframax-sized tanker. Topside modules are added on the main deck to simulate different floater configurations.
