Seismic data sets available in the Gulf of Suez generally exhibit very poor images of the pre-salt section. The seismic waves must penetrate through a thick overburden constituted by a succession of thin layers of drastically different properties. A detailed earth model was carefully elaborated to replicate this geological scenario and various modeling experiments were conducted to simulate the issues affecting seismic quality. Based on these synthetic experiments, a list of recommendations was formulated to address these challenges.
