The driver for smaller sources in marine streamer seismic acquisition is the ability to increase the survey design options to meet the desired outcome: improved spatial resolutions, acquisition efficiency, or to allow the simultaneous acquisition of streamer and node data. In the last few years, sources have gone from three sub-arrays to two. The next step is single sub-arrays, which are shown here with field tests to be comparable to both two and three subarrays.
