We demonstrate the ability to record seismic data on a longrange standard fiber-optic cable with good signal-to-noise character for standard VSP and near-surface seismic analysis. Shallow-trenched surface seismic and boreholedeployed fiber cables were utilized. Various sensing scenarios were tested utilizing variable 5– 30 km length fiberoptic cable lead-ins with significant additional attenuator losses present before entering the active sensing section of about 5 km length. A vibratory source was used to collect sets of offset shots into the sensing array for each recording setting. Although tested on-shore, it demonstrates the feasibility of collecting useful seismic data on standard single-mode fibers in long-reach subsea well scenarios.
