Abstract
Components of an ESP undergo testing prior to and during assembly. A factory acceptance test (FAT) occurs with criteria designed to ensure components operate satisfactorily. At times, a system integration test (SIT) will also be undertaken operating the assembled components in a loaded condition. This paper primarily focuses on the protector/seal which passes all testing, including the FAT but fails post SIT testing due to unacceptable levels of contamination inside the upper bag. This paper covers the findings from two sets of SITs conducted at separate facilities and demonstrates leaking occurs in the protector/seal that is not accounted for in the pre-SIT testing criteria.
