When the pressure of a gas condensate reservoir declines to below dew point due to depletion, liquid phase of the hydrocarbon builds up. This liquid phase is shaped into a condensate ring that exists around the wellbore. This in turn lowers gas production rate and has a great impact on well deliverability and productivity. Super-critical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) injection is a proposed technique to minimise condensate banking effect. SCCO2 minimises the surface tension that exists between the gas and liquid phase and frees the trapped condensate. The objective of this paper is to quantitatively investigate the physics behind SCCO2 injection into a gas condensate reservoir and to examine how SCCO2 mixes with condensate. A numerical simulation study is conducted using a compositional simulator, ECLIPSE E300. Results of the simulation model were matched with experiments and showed that as a result of the injection, surface tension, condensate viscosity and trapped condensate decreased.
