Methods for Verification, Validation and Uncertainty Quantification (V&V and UQ) have been the subjects of interest to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the mechanical engineering community as a whole for over two decades. During this time period, ASME Codes and Standards V&V Committee has lead the development of Standards for performing verification, validation, and uncertainty assessments. This paper reviews the work that has gone into the specification of these standards and the continuing efforts of the V&V Committee to formulate methods and procedures for verification, validation, and quantifying numerical uncertainty.
