As surface ships are required to achieve higher speeds to meet their mission requirements, many still have intermediate speed endurance requirements that necessitate higher efficiency than some high-speed propulsor options con provide. This effort looks into developing propellers with blade sections that have the efficiency characteristics of conventional submerged sub-cavitating propellers at low and inte1mediate speeds but can transition to the super-cavitating mode for highspeed operation without encountering thrust breakdown.
