The paper describes a major joint industry project undertaken to develop risk-calibrated design criteria for well casings and tubings. Supported by eighteen oil companies and two regulatory bodies, it included assessment of target safety levels; collection of historical load data and tubular resistance data; gas kick modelling and comparison with field test results; software enhancement; and calculation of risk-calibrated design criteria for the gas kick and tubing leak load cases.
